About Camborne
Camborne is a historic town located in West Cornwall, with a population of around 20,000.
Known for its rich mining heritage, Camborne was once at the heart of Cornwall’s tin and copper industries, playing a crucial role during the Industrial Revolution.
The town’s landscape is dotted with remnants of this past, including engine houses and mining machinery, many of which can be explored on the Great Flat Lode trail.
The famous Camborne School of Mines, established in 1888, highlights the town’s connection to mining education and innovation.
One of it’s notable figures is Richard Trevithick, a pioneering engineer born here, who developed the first high-pressure steam engine and early steam locomotives. Together with Sir Humphry Davy of Penzance, Trevithick is one of Cornwall’s most famous sons.
Camborne has a lively town centre with local shops, pubs and markets, while nearby attractions include Tehidy Country Park, Cornwall’s largest area (250 acres) of woodland, and the beautiful beaches of the North coast of Cornwall, from St Ives in the West to Porthtowan further East.
