About Penzance
Situated in the far west of Cornwall, Penzance is a charming coastal town with a population of around 21,000.
As the most westerly major town in Cornwall, it boasts stunning views over Mount’s Bay, with the iconic St Michael’s Mount as a prominent feature in nearby Marazion.
Unlike landlocked Camborne, Penzance has a rich maritime history, once a bustling port for fishing and trading, and has long been associated with smuggling & piracy legends.
The town is also known for its mild climate caused by the Gulf Stream, which allows for the cultivation of exotic plants. This is showcased by Morrab Gardens, with it’s beautiful subtropical flora.
Penzance has a vibrant arts scene, as evidenced by it’s numerous galleries and events such as the Golowan Festival, which celebrates Cornish culture and tradition.
Famous figures associated with Penzance include Sir Humphry Davy, a pioneering electrochemist who invented the Davy lamp.
The town’s picturesque promenade, art deco Jubilee Pool, and historic architecture, like the Egyptian House, make Penzance a beautiful mix of heritage and natural beauty.
